Ten products, ordered from "you probably already own it" to "buy it before the pet does something on the Persian". Every recommendation names the material it belongs on – and the ones it will ruin.

Price on Amazon.co.uk: £2–£5 for 1 kg
Use for: Grease absorption (olive oil, cooking splatter), odour neutralisation, gentle abrasive.
Safe on: Safe on ALL rug materials including wool and jute.
Avoid: Do not use damp on jute – creates paste.
Verdict: The one product every rug household needs. Cheap, universal, kind to wool.

Do I need branded rug cleaner at all?
